Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: Where to find all six Orbs

During Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake’s story, you’ll be tasked with finding a series of six colored Orbs. These are used to awaken the Everbird and allow you to fly across the overworld. While slow, it still makes traveling much easier, as there are no fights, and you can finally reach some previously inaccessible areas. If you have the Echoing Flute, you can check dungeons and towns to see if any Orbs are there, but that’s not really necessary if you know where you’re going, and what you’re doing.

Some of them are hidden behind frustrating bosses, and some are a little bit easier, just involving a few story triggers. If you want to know where they are, we’re here to help you get to the next story objective in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake - and that means you need six Orbs!

Note: This guide contains spoilers about the location of key items in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.

Where to locate all six Orbs in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake

What’s interesting about the Orbs in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, is that getting some of them necessitates terrifying new boss encounters. The Green Orb will make you fight the Dying Fire, and before you can claim the Blue Orb at Gaia’s Pit, you have to fight the Chiromancer. Below is a list of the Orbs, and where you can find them:

  • Green Orb: In Theddon at Night; head to the prison. Requires Ultimate Key. Boss: Dying Fire.
  • Red Orb: Head to Pirate’s Den, and push the statue. Head downstairs and claim the Orb.
  • Purple Orb: Reward for defeating Orochi the second time, in Jipangu. Speak to Himiko in the main hall to trigger the fight.
  • Blue Orb: Gaia’s Pit Trial in Lanson. Requires fighting Chiromancer alone as the Hero.
  • Yellow Orb: New Town (Final Phase). Found behind the throne after the Merchant is arrested. Speak to the Merchant in jail to trigger.
  • Silver Orb: Speak to the man at the Necrogond Shrine to claim the orb.

Most of these are pretty self-explanatory, but you wouldn’t know to go there unless you played the original game. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake may highlight locations on the map for the Orbs, but it tells you nothing beyond that. The Red Orb, for example, is incredibly easy — if you know to push the statue.

The hardest Orb to get in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is arguably the Yellow Orb. You need to recruit a Merchant and take them to the empty town on the east side of the map, east of Persistence. The town's name will be the same as the Merchant's, so be attentive. You need to complete certain triggers, and then return to the town afterward.

  • Defeat Orochi in Jipang
  • Defeat Boss Troll in Manoza
  • Claim the Blue Orb in Lanson
  • Return to the town and find the people talking of revolution.

You may have to leave, sleep at an inn, and return, or even quit the game and reload to get this to trigger. It can be finicky for that last stage. Once you visit the Merchant in jail, you can then go behind the throne to find the Yellow Orb.

Once you have all six Orbs in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, head to the Shrine of the Everbird on the southern icy island, and place them. This will give you Ramia, and the ability to (slowly) fly. The overworld is now your oyster, and you can make your final preparations to defeat Archfiend Baramos.
