How to tame animals in Enshrouded
Enshrouded has a feature that allows you to tame animals, and some players may not even realize that’s a possibility. In fact, as long as it’s not an animal that aggressively tries to kill you, you can tame virtually anything — cats, dogs, goats, fey deer, there are plenty of potential animals. Some are nice to have alongside you in combat, and some are just adorable friends you can have in your base.
As you explore this land, you’ll see plenty of animals you can tame, while also searching for important allies like Survivors in Enshrouded. If you want to know what it takes to make some new animal friends in this survival game, we’re here to get you on the right path.
What you need to tame animals in Enshrouded
You can only tame animals that aren’t aggressive to you in Enshrouded. That still leaves a good number of potential animals. If you run up to these animals in the wild, they will typically run away from you immediately, so you need a strategy. To actually tame them, you must distract them with the right food type and also pat them three times.
The most important part of all of this is finding Emily Fray, the Farmer. In addition to giving you useful things to craft to keep your pets happy (beds, feeders, etc.), she allows you to unlock Bait, the proper food to distract pets in the wild. Having access to Emily will also give you a quest to begin animal taming, which will start with goats.
You must obtain or make some Goat Baits and then use them to tame some goats. This also teaches you the system, so you know what to do for other animals. Put the bait on your bar and very carefully crouch and sneak over to the animal in question. Throw the bait towards them, and wait for them to begin eating, from a reasonably safe distance.
The next step to tame animals in Enshrouded is to sneak over and pet it while it’s eating. If you see a Question Mark pop up while approaching, stop immediately and back away. If an Exclamation Mark pops up, keep backing up. If you stay too long, that will scare them off. When you’re done petting it, and it’s ready to be claimed, you’ll see “Pick Up” on the screen.
The tame animal will enter your inventory. Thankfully, you don’t have to feed them when they’re in your inventory. You’ll probably want to tame a few of these at once, so they can breed. You also have to keep your animals happy when you tame them, but you’ll see their needs after placing them in your base.
Animals, in return for keeping them happy, can give you resources as a reward. Goats, for example, grant you milk. Each animal requires its own bait, though. It’s worth noting that some of the pets can only be tamed once you’ve completed specific quests. Yaks, for example, require you to complete the quest Gathering Wool in the Albaneve Summits quest. You will also need the right bait, which can be crafted through Emily Fray.
