How to get a dog in Enshrouded
As you explore Enshrouded, why not pick up a dog as a pet? They’re loyal and adorable and are great pets just in general. It takes some work to get a dog though, as you’ll need several of the Survivors already in your base to catch and tame them. There are two dog types that we’ve heard of so far: a beige one and a black one. The first is found as a part of a side quest, and the second is a little bit off the beaten path. Although they take effort to unlock, they're worth it.
One thing you’ll need to do as a prerequisite is unlock the Hunter Survivor and complete several quests for them. If you’re stumped on where to find these great animals, here’s how to get a dog in Enshrouded.
Where to find both dog types in Enshrouded
To get a dog in Enshrouded, you must take the time to complete quests for the Hunter Survivor. Eventually, you’ll pick up the quest titled Man’s Best Friend. This will take you to Thornhold to find the dog Ruffles. However, before you do any of this, you must have access to taming animals.
You should, by this point, already have the ability to tame animals in Enshrouded, so make sure you pack a few bits of Dog Bait and hit the road. Head to the Ancient Spire - Revelwood Fast Travel, and glide southeast to get to Thornhold. This is a town packed with Scavengers, so it’s recommended you deal with that threat before you bother to try and get a dog.
Like all animals, throw the food in front of Ruffles, and slowly crouch and come up behind him to pet him. If you see an exclamation mark or question mark, make sure to back off to not scare him off. It will take a few times of petting him to claim this dog. However, another dog has also been found, a black dog.
This one is in the Nomad Highlands, so if you want to glide here, one of the best ways is to have a Flame Shrine on the Pillars of Creation. This way, you can easily glide down exactly where you need to be. Then, glide southeast until you reach a large watchtower.
You must fight a few skeleton dogs here, but once they’re cleared away, break down the barrier on one of the cages to set the black dog free. You’ll need to spend a few times petting it to tame it, but once you do, you’ll have unlocked a second dog. At this time, we don’t know if there are other dogs hiding in the world, but it’s certainly a possibility.
