John Terry now plies his trade with Aston Villa.

What’s the story?

FIFA 18 is the most trending topic all over the internet right now and as the ratings for players are revealed by EA Sports, what follows are tonnes of reactions over them.

This time it's John Terry, who faces the music. Terry, the Chelsea F.C legend and a player whose very name spelled terror a few years ago, is on the wrong end of the stick this time as he gets flak from the fans of his current club Aston Villa.

In the latest version of FIFA, Terry has been rated an overall of 78. This shows the significant decline over the years as a football player.

In case you didn’t know

Back in his prime, Terry used to be rated around 88. He was truly a leader of men and was calm and composed, and guided his team to many laurels. He truly thrived under the master guidance of the world renowned manager, Carlo Ancelotti. Under bosses Rafa Benitez and Roberto Di Matteo, Terry helped his team win the UEFA Europa and Champions League respectively.

The heart of the matter

In the season of 2016-17, his last year at Chelsea, John Terry was rated 84. Soon after the season concluded, Terry snubbed all interest from the top-flight teams and joined Aston Villa on a free transfer. Since leaving the Premier League for Championship football, John Terry's rating has dropped by six points.

In his 2017-18 campaign, Terry has made seven appearances so far. However many fans have been skeptical and highly critical of his performance so far. Fans from all over have mainly complained about John Terry's lack of pace to operate in the demanding area of defence that requires quick reactions and critical thinking.

What’s next?

It remains to be seen if John Terry can take this criticism in a positive stride and try and work on his shortcomings. Terry's vast expertise could play a big role in deciding if Aston Villa make it to top-flight football next season or not.

Author’s take

John Terry's rating does seem slightly harsh. It is a particularly sharp downgrade considering his rating last season.
