What's the story?

EA Sports have been releasing FIFA 18's top 100 players since the start of this week and over 60 players' ratings have already been made public. Yesterday's big reveal was the 41-60 players in the top 100, and quite a few top players including Philippe Coutinho, Romelu Lukaku, and Andres Iniesta.

However, a big bone of contention was the comparison between Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku's ratings. Kane, who won the Premier League Golden Boot last season, features at 50 in the top 100 ratings, while Lukaku, who scored fewer number of goals than Kane in 2016-17, is ahead of the Englishman at 47.

In case you didn't know...

On Tuesday, EA Sports published the first set of FIFA 18 player ratings in the form of the top 81 to 100 players in the game, while Wednesday saw the ratings of the top 61 to 80 players in FIFA 18. Yesterday's reveal put out the top 41 to 60 players and the trend is set to continue even today and tomorrow.

The heart of the matter

Lukaku, who moved to Manchester United for big money earlier this summer, has an impressive 86-rated overall card with 83 in pace, 85 in shooting, and 84 in physicality. Kane, in comparison, also got an 86-rated card but his attribute ratings were slightly on the lower side compared to Lukaku's, thereby forcing the England international to feature below the Belgian powerhouse in FIFA 18's top 100 ratings.

However, Kane's pace attribute of 71 created quite a stir on social media and it didn't go down well with the Tottenham fans. Here are some of the reactions.

What's next?

FIFA 18 rolls out on 29th September and Cristiano Ronaldo is widely expected to top the rating charts.

Author's take

While it can be argued that Lukaku had scored bucket loads of goals with average teammates at Everton, Kane freak goal scoring record also can't be ignored. With both players now at teams of similar stature, the real battle will commence when FIFA 19 comes around. Until then, Tottenham fans have to accept the bitter end of the deal.
