How to become Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is one of the transformations you can unlock in the title. If you are a loyal fan of the series, then you will know how iconic the Super Saiyan transformation was when it first happened during the Friezer arc in Dragon Ball Z. After months of waiting and an excruciating amount of fillers, Goku finally gained enough power to unlock Super Saiyan and beat the space tyrant.

In Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, you also have access to character transformations. However, the way you transform will differ based on the mode you play. In the Story mode, you will witness Goku and the other characters struggle before they unlock their abilities, while in multiplayer you can transform at will.

In this article, we shed more light on Super Saiyan and other transformations in Dragons Ball Sparking Zero.

Transforming in Episode Battles (Story Mode)

In the story-driven Episode Battles, transformations are connected to narrative progression and only occur when certain events unfold in the story. You cannot manually trigger transformations in this mode.

For example, during Goku’s fight with Majin Buu, Goku starts the fight in his base form. As you advance through the battle and damage Buu, Goku will automatically transform into Super Saiyan 1, followed by SSJ2 and SSJ3 as the fight continues. Similarly, fusions (such as Gotenks or Vegito) occur automatically when the story demands it, rather than through player action.

Transforming in multiplayer and other modes

In multiplayer modes or non-story-based gameplay, transformations work differently. Here, you're in control of when and how to transform, but this requires the right character and sufficient Skill Points.

Steps to Transform in Multiplayer:

Select a Character with Transformations: Choose a character from the roster that is capable of transforming.

Build Skill Points: To initiate a transformation, you need to build up Skill Points. The number of points required depends on the power level of the transformation. Minor transformations (like Super Saiyan 1) may require only 1 Skill Point. More advanced transformations (such as Super Saiyan Blue) can require up to 3 Skill Points.

Initiate transformation: When your character has enough Skill Points, a blue up-arrow will appear next to their portrait, signaling that you can transform. Once this happens, use the following inputs:

  • Hold Up on the D-pad to bring up the transformation menu.
  • Press R3/RS (right analog stick) to trigger the transformation sub-menu.
  • Flick the right stick to the form you want to transform into, and the transformation will occur.

If you're playing as Goku and have built up 3 Skill Points, you can go directly from base Goku to Super Saiyan Blue. If you're playing as Frieza, you can transform progressively through each of his forms with enough Skill Points.
