How to complete The Shadow In The Night quest in Mirthwood

The recently released RPG and simulation title Mirthwood comprises various quests. One quest you encounter during the early game is The Shadow in the Night. Despite being a side quest, completing this will reward players with a fair amount of Morality points in the game.

Mentioned below is a complete guide on how you can finish The Shadow in the Nightside quest in Mirthwood.

Mirthwood: Shadow in the Night walkthrough

To start this quest, you need to head to the cemetery in Brightoak. Find a note placed on a chair to trigger the quest. The objective is to find clues about a monster near Brightoak. The clues can be found at one place—Murkwater Marsh—an area located to the south of Brightoak. To find the first clue, head to the south path from Brightoak. This route will take you into the marshes. From here, keep walking until you find a shattered wagon.

From this wagon, turn right to find some ruins along with a note. This is your first clue. For the second clue, you need to look for claw marks on a tree. Luckily, there are numerous trees with such marks, and locating any one of them would be enough. Walk down the southbound path, and you will find a tree on the left side of the path. Approach and interact with the tree to collect the second clue.

Now, using these clues, you need to find Markus, the dangerous monster we are searching for. Fortunately, his location would be clearly marked with a yellow circle on the map. You will learn that he is just a villager who turns into a werewolf. As you reach Markus' location in Mirthwood, you will have two choices. The first is killing Markus, and the other one is simply leaving him alone.

If you leave Markus, you will be rewarded with +5 Morality points. However, if you decide to kill him, you will be rewarded with +5 Renown Wolf Liver, 38 Gold, Markus' Tooth and Markus' Note. Even though the rewards of killing him are greater, you will likely not be able to defeat him, given his wrath and your likely lack of strong weapons during the early stages of the game.

However, if you still wish to kill him, it will be in your best interest to use a Rusty Iron Sword. Additionally, make sure to bait him into coming into the village as you might receive some help from the villagers while killing him.
