How to defeat Valmo in Metaphor ReFantazio

Metaphor ReFantazio's campaign has the player undertake a variety of activities, from exploring dungeons, completing side quests, leveling up archetypes and much more. However, like any RPG, the main focus of the campaign mode are the boss fights, and they can prove to be quite the challenge for players.

One of the more challenging battles in the game is the one with Valmo, also known as the Alpha Rockworm Valmo. Defeating it will grant a handsome sum of Reeves to the player, but the battle could prove to be a long one, should players rush in unprepared. Below are the best ways to take down Valmo.

Preparing for Valmo

The first step is to have the Man-Eater in the Mine quest active, which will unlock this boss fight. This can be done by accepting a bounty to take down Alpha Rockworm Valmo, which can be done from any Recruitment Center across the map. Once the quest has been accepted, travel to the Man-Eater's Grotto location on the map.

Stock up on items and magic points before entering the dungeon. Items such as Vitamin Relaxants can be very beneficial, as the enemies within the dungeon can deal damage capable of paralyzing the party members.

The Valmo has two heads, which are co-dependent. Therefore, if only one head is targeted and damaged, it will survive as long as the other is still alive. Hence, both heads need to be taken down in the same turn to prevent the enemy from respawning. Valmo is susceptible to Ice damage, so unleash the frigid attacks and spells in your arsenal.

Have at least one party member equipped with the Mage archetype, and a Healer archetype is also required due to the challenge of this fight. Avoid using Fire attacks, as Valmo is completely immune to them. Attacks such as Sandstorm may be unleashed by Valmo, which can bring down the attacking power and morale of the whole party.

Remove the effects of this attack as fast as possible, as it prevents timely usage of the Press Turn icons. Use items such as Ice Chunks, Ice Sickle, Ice Crystals and more to cause ample damage to both heads. The Mage attack Synthesis can help out as well, as it causes damage to all the enemies in the vicinity, which means when Valmo is low on health, an effective use of Synthesis can take it down.
