Is Dragon Age The Veilguard open-world?
Coming from the open fields of the Inquisition, one might wonder if Dragon Age The Veilguard will also take an open-world approach like its predecessor. Exploration is a big aspect of many RPGs as the areas contain tons of side activities, like quests or trinket hunts, that allow you to gain XP or in-game currencies. This will be true for the upcoming DA game, however, it will differ from Inquisition in a few aspects.
Dragon Age The Veilguard will unfortunately not be a fully open-world game. Instead, it will feature smaller open areas you can travel to. You will also have a base of operations, the Lighthouse, from where you can plan out missions before heading out.
Let's take a look at everything we know about exploration in Dragon Age The Veilguard.
Dragon Age The Veilguard will feature a semi open-world environment
BioWare has already revealed that its upcoming RPG will be linear and not open-world like Inquisition. The Veilguard will feature open areas that you will be able to explore, like Dragon Age Origins. The mission structure is also quite similar to BioWare's sci-fi RPG series, Mass Effect, owing to the base of operations, The Lighthouse.
As you progress through Veilguard's story, you will unlock more locations like the Tevinter capital city of Minrathous, Arlathan Forest, etc. Despite being a linear game, the game will not lock out most areas, as you will be able to backtrack your way to the various cities, parts of Arlathan Forest, and more locations that you have already unlocked.

Certain areas will also feature a variety of puzzles and chests that you can open, among various other activities that will keep you engaged. Some quests might pop up in older locations as you progress through the story, and you can go back to complete them.
One thing you should keep in mind is that Dragon Age The Veilguard will have a point of no return based on the choices you make during certain acts of the story. So it is wise to complete side quests whenever they pop up during each chapter of the game. This will ensure that you don't miss out on anything.
