Is Stalker 2 an open-world game?
After years of anticipation, fans will finally be able to play Stalker 2, which is set to be released in a few days. The game was delayed due to the Russia-Ukraine war and is still embroiled in controversy regarding its release in Russia. However, this doesn't seem to take away much from the franchise, as it has not disappointed gamers. That said, a question many gamers currently have is whether the game will be open-world or not.
GSC Game World, the game's developer and publisher, has already confirmed via an FAQ posted on its official website that the game will follow a non-linear storyline. Despite being an FPS shooter and survival horror title, it will feature an open world for players to explore.
Stalker 2 will have a ton of playable content
In the FAQ, GSC Game World stated that it will take gamers over 100 hours to fully explore the map:
"We have a seamless open world with more than 60 square kilometers of space, which is one of the biggest open worlds in video games to date. You’ll need more than 100 hours of gameplay to explore its secrets."
Despite there being no co-op mode and no multiplayer mode on the launch date, the developers are positive that the game will feature a lot of playable content. That said, GSC Game World has confirmed that a PVP mode will be added later via an update.
Moreover, players will also receive a bonus side quest as part of the pre-order bonus if they purchase the Deluxe Edition of Stalker 2, which is priced at $80. To know more about the pre-order bonuses, you can refer to this article.
To make things better, GSC Game World has also confirmed that players don't necessarily need to play the previous titles from the Stalker franchise before starting Stalker 2. However, if you want to experience the storyline to the fullest, it is advised you play them or at least read the summary of the plot.
Stalker 2 is a Microsoft- exclusive title that will only be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game will be released worldwide on November 20, 2024.
