Mortal Kombat 11 News: Ronda Rousey to voice Sonya Blade; her reaction to the news
It's been a huge rumor since last week that Sonya Blade would be getting a new celebrity voice actor. Nerd Mag revealed that Ronda Rousey was set to voice the Mortal Kombat icon, and at the Mortal Kombat 11 Reveal event, NetherRealm Studios confirmed it.
NetherRealm played the "Sonya Blade Reveal" trailer, which opened with the General of Earthrealm confronting the bloody assassin, Skarlet. As the world heard, "You've been looking for me, Skarlet?" it was clear that the Baddest Woman on the Planet was portraying Blade.
Rousey said that growing up, she idolized Sonya Blade, stating that she was the first "kickass girl" that she'd seen. The WWE Raw Women's Champion said that she'd emulated much of her career after Sonya Blade, and being able to voice her in Mortal Kombat 11 was truly an honor.
Rousey also said that she loved voice acting in general, as it allowed her to be as goofy as possible. Growing up, Rousey was a huge fan of the Mortal Kombat series, stating that it was one of the first fighting games that had a story that really connected with her. And considering how well it has been since the reboot in 2011, Rousey will be a part of one of gaming's greatest stories of this decade.
After the trailer, Rousey was interviewed and was asked how it felt to be voicing her childhood hero.
This is a dream come true. I tried to grow up to be Sonya Blade, as close as I could. I feel like if Raiden came down right now and had to pick three warriors for Mortal Kombat, I would definitely be that person. Now, instead of being the closest thing I can be to Sonya Blade, I'm actually Sonya Blade.
Rousey said that her fighting style was influenced by Sonya Blade, and seeing the character perform one of her iconic moves was mind-blowing for her.
You can emulate Rousey and Sonya Blade as well when Mortal Kombat hits shelves on April 23rd on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.
