The latest refresh of Pure Fiction in Honkai Star Rail 2.6 has seen the resurgence of certain characters that haven't been used in this gameplay mode in a while, along with the addition of some recently launched characters. This current rotation of Pure Fiction features enemy bosses such as Bronya and Yanqing, with a focus on DoT (damage over time) buffs.

With a sample size of 9067 players, the following are the most picked characters in Honkai Star 2.6 Pure Fiction, as compiled by X user StarRailVerse1:
- Ruan Mei: 89.21%
- Harmony Trailblazer: 72.45%
- Black Swan: 59.78%
- Kafka: 58.04%
- Acheron: 54.33%
- Gallagher: 46.20%
- Firefly: 45.37%
- Robin: 44.38%
- Aventurine: 39.05%
- Lingsha: 37.01%
- Himeko: 31.24%
- Jiaoqiu: 30.65%
- Huohuo: 30.62%

Ruan Mei has been steadily holding the title of most picked character in almost all Honkai Star Rail limited-time challenges, such as Pure Fiction, Memory of Chaos, and Apocalyptic Shadow for a while now. She is one of the best supports in the game and can fit into quite a few teams.
Harmony Trailblazer closely follows Ruan Mei as they are a free support unit that can fit quite well into many Break team compositions.
Since this version of Pure Fiction focuses on DoT buffs, it is not surprising that Black Swan and Kafka follow as the next most picked characters. Kafka and Black Swan are two of the best DoT characters in the game — they can also function very well when used in an Acheron hypercarry/dual DoT team.
Firefly and Gallagher as the next two most picked characters make sense because they function very well together in a Super Break team. Firefly is currently the best Break DPS in the game, and Gallagher is the most widely available sustain/healer/support unit for Super Break teams. Interestingly, Gallagher is the only 4-Star unit to make it to the top 15 most-picked characters for Honkai Star Rail 2.6 Pure Fiction.
The rest of the characters on the list mostly function as support/sustain units, except for Rappa and Himeko, who can work well as the DPS unit in their own separate Super Break teams.
