Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3.3 Designer's Notes: Character buffs, bullet trail changes, and more

With the Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3.3 Designer's Notes, game devs aim to improve several underrated operators that saw a decline in pick rate owing to some QoL or game mechanic-related reasons. As we step into the mid-season of Operation Twin Shells, the Y9S3.3 patch will adopt a different approach to adjust the win-delta vs. presence graph. Instead of nerfing over-picked characters, buffing ops like Zofia, Mozzie, and Iana, among a few others, will allow players to be more creative during rounds.

This round of Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3.3 Designer's Notes is targeted specifically towards under-picked operators that have great potential on paper but fall off during practical gameplay aspects. This is a great way to address the current win delta vs presence graph as the top-picked attacker is still Ash, who continues to shine in that spot despite a magazine capacity nerf she received recently.

In this article, we shall look at the changes set to be introduced with the upcoming patch as outlined in the Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3.3 Designer's Notes.

Iana

  • Gemini Replicator Cooldown (when destroyed): Reduced to 20 seconds (from 30).

Unlike Drones, Iana's Gemini Replicator is too easy to detect and destroy, causing it to be less effective. The main advantage of employing the Gemini Replicator over drones is that it does not cause resource loss when destroyed. Therefore, in Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3.3 Designer's Notes, the devs are reducing the cooldown timer for the Gemini Replicator that comes up once the enemy team destroys it.

Jackal

  • Eyenox Visor distortion effects are removed when being shot with bullets.

Removing the distortion effect caused by being shot will allow Jackal to use his Eyenox more effectively. This allows him more leeway to keep the visor on in high-pressure environments. This adjustment would allow him to deliver more information to his team by keeping the visor on for extended periods all while being visually clutter-free.

Kali

  • Secondary Gadget changes: Added Smoke Grenades.

The addition of Smoke Grenades is meant to help Kali move with some stealth or to assist her team by cutting off defenders' lines of sight. This will allow for some tactical maneuvers, which when combined with the changes her gun is receiving will allow her to play a bit more discretely.

Mozzie

  • Maximum Pest Launchers: Increased to 4 (from 3).

Mozzie already had enough potential to be more effective than many other intel operators but always lacked reliability in his gadget. As mentioned in Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3.3 Designer's Notes, the devs aim to make him more effective during the prep phase and the rest of the round by adding one extra resource to his Pest launcher.

Additionally, giving Mozzie the option to equip Impact Grenades will help improve his lethality as a roamer.

Zero

  • Maximum Argus cam resources: increased to six (from four).

Argus Cameras are prone to destruction since they are mostly deployed in dangerous and vulnerable spots. However, the addition of two more resources mentioned can hopefully allow him more creative deployment scenarios that can serve to be more effective. This also means better coverage of blind spots and flank paths.

Zofia

  • Gadgets: Removed Breach Charges. Added Hard Breach Charges.

By replacing Zofia's Breach Charges with Hard Breach Charges, developers hope to increase her versatility, allowing her to undertake both soft and hard breaching roles all while being able to clear angles with her concussion grenades.

The CSRX 300's bullet trails are more obnoxious and easy to spot than normal gun trails. This made it easy for defenders to spot Kali's location and play without giving her peeks. Situations like this made her very ineffective at times and that's why the devs decided to reduce the size of her bullet trails with Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3.3 Designer's Notes.

The reduction in bullet trail duration and size will make it possible for Kali to take a second shot before revealing her position to defenders.

  • Bullet trail Duration: Reduced to 1 second (from 2).
  • Bullet trail Size: Reduced by 75%.

Additional changes mentioned to come in Rainbow Six Siege Y9S4

Since the shield changes went live in Y9S1, there has been a massive surge of Shield users across the entire community. This is because the Shield ops can assume control of sites faster and clear out defenders aggressively.

This high-influence presence is more effective than what the Rainbow Six Siege devs wanted it to be. Due to this reason, they are looking forward to making changes that can help tune back shields to bring them more in line with other attackers in the next update.
