Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update: Shield balancing, Phantom player, and more
With the game heading towards the end-season of Operation Twin Shells, R6 Devs have dropped the Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update. Alongside many creature comforts, this Roadmap update aims to improve the overall gameplay experience. Be it cheater detection or an improved matchmaking system, R6 Devs have a plethora of updates ready to be deployed ahead of Y9S4 Operation Collision Point.
As planned, the upcoming season which follows Operation Twin Shells, will be focusing mainly on a particular operator rework instead of the introduction of a completely new character. After ramping down the operator release schedule to two per year, Rainbow Six Siege Year 9 has already seen the latest additions of the year through the Attacker Deimos and the Defender Skopos.
In this article, we shall look at the Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update which features various notable sneak peeks at Shield Balancing, Phantom Player, Dynamic matchmaking, and more.
Rainbow Six Siege Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update ahead of Operation Collision Point
Shield Nerf - Balancing update (Y9S4)
With the Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update, Rainbow Six Siege devs have conveyed that the redesigned shield mechanic initially introduced in Y9S1, has evolved and become ruthless and impactful. Therefore with Y9S4, they will readjust shields and minimize their impact.
Phantom Player - Player comfort (Y9S4)
Phantom Player is a mechanic that aims to improve the overall experience of Rainbow Six Siege players. In this mechanic, the "Phantom Player" is a mathematical value, a ''6th player'', that adds another layer of balancing to matchmaking.
This "Phantom Player" will essentially detect skill disparities between players in a stack and add the appropriate skill value to balance the matches based on the number of players in the stack. This addition targets the current Ranked 2.0 experience, regarding which many players have expressed their frustrations.
Console - PC Crossplay 1.0 + MouseTrap implementation (Y9S4)
With the Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update, Console-to-PC Crossplay 1.0 will allow PC and console gamers to play together. This works by allowing console users to opt into the PC matchmaking pool. In Y9S4, R6 Devs will make sure that MouseTrap forces confirmed MnK (Mouse and Keyboard) console cheaters into PC matchmaking using the standard PC recoil values.
Cheater Match Cancellation (Y9S4)
With this new feature, R6 Devs want to ensure that whenever a cheater is detected in a lobby and banned, their match is instantly canceled.
This new mechanic from planned in the Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update will allow legitimate players to spend less time in unfair cheater-infested matches while also ensuring that real players do not face abandonment penalties or unfair Ranked losses.
Siege Cup Beta for All Platforms (Y9S4)
Siege Cup Beta will be featured on all platforms and it will remain in the Beta phase since the Devs intend to conduct further testing.
Operator changes - Balancing update (Y9S4)
With the Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update, the operators Ying, Sens, and Thunderbird will be receiving changes. With Ying, the Devs intend to make playing against her less of a hassle. Sens will be receiving an update that hopes to expand the possibility of more strategic and opportunistic plays. Finally, Thunderbird will be the recipient of an update that aims to make her more of an asset to a defender lineup.
AI Chat moderation - Player Protection (Y9S4)
With this new moderation system, AI will examine and monitor all text chat communications in real-time, by flagging or removing potentially problematic ones. These particular messages, whether flagged, positive, or censored, will affect the player's Reputation Standing.
Reputation System update - Player Protection (Y9S4)
With the Y9S3 Mid-Season Roadmap update, R6 Devs will upgrade the Reputation System that players are accustomed to. They are revamping the Reputation System ahead of Y9S4 and are currently in the balancing stages to ensure accurate data accumulation.
Dynamic Matchmaking 1.0 - Player Comfort (Delayed to Y10)
A dynamic matchmaking system will be introduced in Y10 that will focus on optimizing server allocation based on a larger set of player data. This feature has been postponed to allow more resources to be allocated to the Phantom Player mechanic which will be coming in Y9S4.
