Should Respawn introduce a solo queue mode in Apex Legends?

Apex Legends, EA’s free-to-play battle royale, features various playlists. Players can choose from a catalog of playlists, and decide what they want to queue for and enjoy their time. Regardless of how many people you are queuing with, you will be placed and have to share the same lobby with everyone who also queued for the same game mode. Since most game modes, especially Ranked Leagues can feature a team completely made of three solo players and a premade three stack, it can be quite unfair for solo players.

This article discusses whether Respawn should implement a solo queue feature in Apex Legends, especially for the Ranked mode.

Will a solo queue mode improve the quality of every match in Apex Legends?

Yes, if Respawn decides to implement a solo queue mode for each playlist, the quality of each game will drastically improve. In game modes, such as the Ranked Leagues, many players tend to solo queue. Due to the current matchmaking system, solo players may get placed with other solos and fight against a premade team. The latter has a significantly higher chance of winning a fight against a team of solo players due to their communication.

So, if a solo queue mode gets rolled out, players will be able to battle against all players who are solo queuing as well. Since players don’t communicate much in solo momode, every match and fight will be fair for all.

While this matchmaking system seems pretty fair, there is a downside. If the developers choose to introduce the solo queue system in the forthcoming seasons, it will split the player base into two parts — solos and premade teams. This will significantly impact the queue times, making players wait for a long time just to get into a match. While each game might be fair, considering there are no cheaters, it is not healthy for the game.

The same applies to the other playlists. While players can wait for a good amount of time for a fair ranked match, waiting for a long time just to get into a normal Trio or mixtape match, players might get frustrated after a while.
