What's the story?

The new feature will be an entirely single player experience and will allow gamers to compete against players worldwide in pay-per-view competitions that will mirror the real-life schedule of WWE events.
In case you didn't know...
WWE 2K18 is set to be released on the 13th of October and is expected to add new features to the much acclaimed 'MyPlayer' offering which has been a part of four 2K series games so far.
MyPlayer allowed gamers to create their own player character, upgrade it with time and build a career through the Player Wizard and the Road To Glory feature will be a companion feature to this, allowing users to compete in events against other gamers with their own created wrestlers.
The heart of the matter
As explained above, the Road To Glory Mode will be a value addition to the MyPlayer feature, allowing players to create their own Superstars using the Wizard. This customised Superstar can be used to compete against other players to earn XP points which can be used to buy loot crates containing Superstar parts, Virtual Currency and player boosts.
The main attraction of the RTG mode is the option it provides for gamers to compete in virtual PPV events. Each night, a themed event will take place which will serve as qualification for PPVs running in tandem with the actual WWE PPV schedule.
The qualification events award points and if one does not have enough points for qualification, the option to buy your way in with real money is always available.
During the PPV period, the goal is to reach the main event and face-off with a with a WWE Superstar scheduled to take part in the event. The goal of the game mode is to start off as a fresh face and fight your way up to the level of a Hall of Famer.
Whats next?
The initial release of WWE 2K18 is due on October 13 with the full game releasing on the 17th of this month. The game has borrowed heavily from the 2K offering seen on the NBA series by the same company.
The NBA features have received rave reviews and the same is expected from the WWE release of the Road To Glory Mode.
Author's Take
The Road To Glory mode is undoubtedly a great idea which if implemented well will result in a huge amount of player participation and involvement not only in the game but also increase eyeballs on the PPV events considering the users will be fighting actual scheduled bouts in tandem with the WWE.
The only concern is connectivity issues and initial hiccups which may derail what has the potential to be a game changer for the WWE 2K series.
