WWE News: New WWE 2K18 gameplay trailer released
What's the story?
The annual WWE video game is only weeks away, which means it's time for one last trailer to get the kids worked up. And, we've got to say, this one is pretty awesome.
In case you didn't know...
WWE '12 was the first in the game series to ditch the usual "Smackdown vs Raw" branding and move towards the style of an annual sports title, much like Madden NFL or NBA Live. While previously published under THQ, Take-Two Interactive bought the rights to the WWE license after THQ went bankrupt and moved the line to their 2K Sports division.
The heart of the matter
In this new trailer, set to Mötley Crüe's "Kickstart My Heart", we get a glimpse of the various playable characters present in the game across WWE's many brands. You'll notice shots of both Jinder Mahal with the WWE Championship as well as Shane McMahon fighting Kevin Owens backstage — apparently indicating that it won't be too hard to catch your own Universe Mode up with the current WWE storylines.
What's next?
The lack of a version for previous generation consoles means that the development team had extra time to put into this year's title. We'll try to have a review for you as soon as we can but, for now, we'll have to wait until at least October 13th (when the game is available for those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition) to find out how well they did.
Author's take
These year-to-year titles are always, at the very least, a step or two better than the previous year. It's just a question of how much better. Let's hope they fixed the promo engine this year because, as nice as it was to have, it was pretty much hot garbage last year.
