Alex Albon applauds Williams for 'pushing boundaries' before Las Vegas GP
Alex Albon recently praised Williams for working hard on both their cars ahead of the 2024 F1 Las Vegas GP. The clip on Instagram showed how the cars were repaired after a poor race weekend in Brazil.
In the Brazilian GP, both Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto crashed into the barriers, causing heavy damage to their cars. In the Q3 qualifying session, during extreme wet conditions, Albon lost control at Turn 1 in Interlagos and collided with the barriers, bringing out the first red flag of the session. Because of this crash, Albon was unable to race on Sunday.
In the main Grand Prix, Franco Colapinto also suffered a major crash on the start-finish straight on Lap 32 of the race. Due to extremely tricky weather conditions, the Argentinian rookie lost control of his car on a slippery track and encountered severe damage to his car.
Since both Williams cars were heavily damaged, the British team spent the next two weeks fixing the car for the Las Vegas GP. They posted a clip on their official Instagram account showcasing their hard work. Ben Howard, the team's chief mechanic, praised the team for their efforts in the clip.
"It's been crazy, I mean after last week, it was a bit daunting. I saw all the parts and we all knew the damaged stuff that we had and everything, and it was not realistic to get everything ready. But I have to say, it's been amazing. The bits that have turned up, we have had abundance of them, we have got spares," Howard said.
"Everybody has just worked throughout, pushed the boundaries. And yeah, I think we are going to actually turn up in Vegas in a better state than we did last event. So it's credit to everybody at the minute," he added.
Alex Albon also praised the entire team by reacting to the Instagram post by Williams.
"Amazing job team."
Alex Albon shared the reason behind his 2024 Brazilian GP crash
After the qualifying session ended in Brazil, Alex Albon speculated that his car suffered some form of technical failure, which could have been the reason why he crashed. Speaking to F1.com, he said that when he hit the brakes, he heard a beep in his ear, which he claimed usually means that there was something wrong with the car.
"I know we had an issue, we just need to go through it. Immediately when I hit the brake pedal there was a beep in my ear which normally means there’s a failure, [there was] rear locking and a big crash," Albon said.
Alex Albon had a mediocre season in 2024. The Thai driver currently stands in 16th place in the drivers' championship table with only 12 points.
