F1 veteran drops 2-word reaction to Red Bull praising Liam Lawson as Sergio Perez's replacement in 2025

Former F1 champion, Damon Hill, recently reacted to Red Bull team boss Christian Horner believing that Liam Lawson could deliver alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen. This statement from Horner came after Lawson was confirmed to replace Sergio Perez on the Austrian team in 2025.

Checo had a tough 2024 F1 season. He started the season strong, finishing on the podium and staying competitive with his teammate Max Verstappen. But after the Monaco Grand Prix, he lost the chance to accumulate valuable points and fell further down the rankings. He was unable to bag any podiums after the Chinese GP.

There were several rumors throughout the year that Checo could be replaced by one of Red Bull's junior drivers like Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, and even former Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo. After the Abu Dhabi GP, the Austrian team announced their decision to part ways with the Mexican on Wednesday, December 18.

Soon after announcing Sergio Perez's departure announcement, Red Bull further confirmed that Liam Lawson will be replacing the Mexican.

In an official statement, Christian Horner talked about how the New Zealander would fare against Max Verstappen. Horner admitted that going up against Verstappen can be a tall order, but he believed that Lawson could deliver and even challenge the Dutchman.

“There’s no doubt that racing alongside Max, a four-time champion and undoubtedly one of the greatest drivers ever seen in F1, is a daunting task, but I’m sure Liam can rise to that challenge and deliver some outstanding results for us next year,” Horner said.

Former F1 world champion Damon Hill recently reacted to Christian Horner's comments on Lawson fighting against Verstappen. The British driver simply stated two words that were used by Horner himself. He hinted that Lawson could still be enthusiastic and determined to take on the challenge of being Verstappen's teammate.

"Undaunted, undoubtedly," Hill wrote.

Liam Lawson excited to work alongside Max Verstappen and learn from the four-time world champion

Liam Lawson talked about joining Red Bull for the 2025 F1 season and driving alongside Max Verstappen. In the official statement from the team, he initially thanked the team and its seniors for giving him the opportunity. Later he stated that he was eager to drive alongside Verstappen and gain as much knowledge and information about the sport, the car, and the team from him as possible.

“To be announced as an Oracle Red Bull Racing Driver is a lifelong dream for me, this is something I’ve wanted and worked towards since I was eight years old. It’s been an incredible journey so far," Lawson said.
"I am super excited to work alongside Max and learn from a World Champion, I have no doubt I will learn from his expertise. I can’t wait to get going!” he added.

As of now, Racing Bulls (RB), from where Liam Lawson was promoted to Red Bull, have not yet announced the 22-year-old's replacement for the 2025 F1 season.
