Fans respond with Max Verstappen's famous “mom” quote after Lewis Hamilton claims he'd have won the race if not for bad qualifying
F1 fans recently reacted to Lewis Hamilton's claim that he could have easily won the 2024 F1 Las Vegas GP if he had not had a bad qualifying. The seven-time world champion secured P2 in the race, behind his teammate and race winner George Russell.
Lewis Hamilton had a much better race weekend in Las Vegas than his last one in Brazil. The British driver struggled a bit in the qualifying session, where he entered Q3, ending last to secure a P10 for the Grand Prix.
In the race, however, he gained quite a lot of positions, overtaking the likes of Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and other top drivers. He finished the race in P2, seven seconds behind George Russell.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the Las Vegas GP, Hamilton said he would have breezed to the top spot if he had secured a decent position in qualifying. Nonetheless, he said that he enjoyed plowing through the field from P10.
“If I’d done my job yesterday, it would have been a breeze today. But it’s ok. I had fun coming from 10th,” Hamilton said.
Several F1 fans reacted to Lewis Hamilton's claim that he would have easily won the Las Vegas GP with a good qualifying. Some fans joked and quoted Max Verstappen's hilarious comment about his mother back in Miami GP, joking that Hamilton's claim was simply speculation and that no one knows what could have happened.
"As another wiseman said 'If my mother had balls...'," one fan wrote.
"True, but if my mom had balls she would have been my dad," another joked.
"Another trophy added to the would have, should have, could have cabinet," someone chimed in.
Some people also discussed the amount of pace George Russell unleashed when Mercedes asked him to push. They discussed that even though Hamilton would have had a good qualifying, he would have faced a stern competition from his teammate.
"Yea Sure it's not like George didn't even try in that last stint and managed heavily. As soon as George was told to pick up the pace he was way faster," one follower wrote.
"Ehhmm no. When Mercedes told Russell to go faster he increased the gap by 3 seconds," another mentioned.
Lewis Hamilton is positive about fighting for top spots after Mercedes found a sudden performance at the Las Vegas GP
Lewis Hamilton expressed his surprise at Mercedes' performance after he managed to secure P2 while George Russell won the 2024 F1 Las Vegas GP.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he claimed that the W15 felt the best in Las Vegas. He then hopes that the car's performance remains this high so that he can challenge other top drivers in the last two races of the season.
"The team did a fantastic job. We don’t know why we were so quick this weekend, but that’s the best the car’s ever felt. So I’m grateful to have been a part of getting it to that point. If the car drives like that in the next couple of races, then I think we’ll be in a good spot to challenge the guys up front," Hamilton said.
As of now, Lewis Hamilton is in seventh place with 208 points, and his teammate, George Russell is in seventh with 217 points.
