Ferrari team principal shares major update about the 2025 F1 contender

Ferrari team boss, Frederic Vasseur recently talked about how different the team's 2025 F1 car will be compared to 2024. He discussed the future machine during a Christmas lunch at Maranello.

After 2021, the FIA massively changed the aerodynamic regulations for F1, which saw a line of brand-new cars from all 10 teams. At first, many of them encountered aerodynamic issues such as porpoising. Gradually, however, they developed the machine to run extremely smoothly. The 2024 F1 season was the third year of these regulations and the teams gradually settled down in their development and started closing the gap to their rivals.

McLaren and Ferrari were two teams that made significant strides towards Red Bull in 2024 and gave them a strong fight.

As per AutoRacer, Vasseur, during the Christmas lunch, stated that Ferrari's 2025 F1 car will be based on a new concept and project. He said that updates will play a major role next year as some of them can affect the team both negatively and positively.

He discussed how the technical regulations have not changed for several years now and his team has a good understanding of it by now. Hence, he announced that their 2025 F1 car will built from the ground up. He later added that the new car will only consist of 'less than 1%' of the current 2024 machine.

"It is true that now when you develop the car, sometimes you also run some risks by introducing updates, and it is something that has affected everyone, but it is the way you react in this situation that becomes fundamental, also for next year,”
“We are in the fourth year of application of this regulation and we know our previous project very well. For this reason, the 2025 car will be completely new. [It will be] less than 1 percent of the current car," he added.

Fred Vasseur is happy with how Ferrari dealt with issues in the 2024 F1 season

Fred Vasseur was happy with how Ferrari operated in the 2024 F1 season, especially with dealing with issues they encountered in July. Speaking to the media during Christmas lunch at Maranello, he said he liked his team's reaction problems and how quickly they worked on them without starting the blame game. Vasseur hoped that the Italian team could fight for championships if they continued to operate in this manner.

“I think the approach this year has been very good. Even when we encountered difficulties in July, the team’s reaction was very good. We never blamed anyone or a department but we worked together to find solutions between the different groups and it definitely went well," Vasseur said.
"Of course, it would have been better not to have any problems, but I think the reaction was good and that’s what we expect for the future if we want to fight for the championship,” he added.

Ferrari ended the 2024 F1 season in second place with 652 points, just 14 points behind constructors' champions, McLaren.
