Franco Colapinto's agent shares a major update about his F1 future as a decision for the 2025 season looms large
Franco Colapinto's agent, Maria Catarineu, has shared an update about the Argentinian's F1 future and claims that the driver is still associated with Williams and that there is an effort to find a place for him in 2025. Colapinto is a name that the F1 paddock was not aware of this season before he made his debut. He was racing in Formula 2, and while his results were good, they didn't stand out and make people take notice of what he was doing.
With that being said, Williams team principal James Vowles had discovered the Argentinian and backed him from the beginning. The driver got the opportunity to replace Logan Sargeant in the 2024 mid-season and had 8 races to make an impression. The driver has since then gone on to make an immediate impression on everyone with his performances in F1, especially compared to his teammate Alex Albon.
Franco Colapinto does not have a drive for 2025, as he was only brought in as a makeshift replacement for Logan Sargeant this season, with Carlos Sainz already signed to take over from the American in 2025. What this also means is that despite the level of performance that Colapinto has shown, he might not be on the grid next season. There are, however, reports that potential suitors are circling. Red Bull had dropped its hat in the ring, and so did Audi, and recent reports suggest that even Alpine has done this.
With reports linking him to so many teams, there's still a lack of clarity on what he'll eventually end up with. Talking to Campeones TV, Franco Colapinto's agent said:
"What is certain is that right now we are with Williams and we are still with Williams. It’s no secret as you have seen, that there is a very big will for Franco to continue in F1 in 2025. It’s a subject that is no secret and we are working on it obviously."
He added:
"I want to deny the rumours that there is something signed for next year. We are currently still with Williams at the moment. I want to say that Williams is the first one who is looking for the best option for Franco. It’s a great team and we feel like a family."
Franco Colapinto's agent on the talks between Red Bull and Williams
According to the agent, James Vowles and Williams were the ones managing what was going to happen next with Franco Colapinto's career and what move would be best for him. There were reports of the Argentinian being on the radar of Red Bull, and Christian Horner was even seen going to the Williams motorhome in Brazil. Talking about the possible conversation between both parties, Colapinto's agent said (via Campeones TV):
"This would have to be confirmed by Williams. I know James has said to various media outlets that he is in talks with various teams. It would have to be Williams who would have to say with which teams they are negotiating."
He added:
“It is clear that many scenarios are being worked out. But what people need to know is that there is a strong desire on many sides for Franco to continue in F1 in 2025. I think the public wants it, F1 itself wants it and Williams wants it too because they want the best for him."
Franco Colapinto's future will certainly keep everyone guessing for some time as the season comes to a close. The driver has proven his mettle in F1 and shown what he can do in the right car.
