Guenther Steiner expects Lando Norris to give Max Verstappen a taste of his own medicine

Former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner claimed that Lando Norris was testing the limits of challenging Max Verstappen at the Austrian GP last weekend, which resulted in their collision. The McLaren driver got a surprising chance to get his second win in F1 at Red Bull Ring after Verstappen's slow last pitstop that saw him come out with old medium tires as compared to Norris's new medium.

The Red Bull driver's lead of over seven seconds was cut down to under a second with Norris pushing him all the way. But despite several divebombs, the 24-year-old was unable to take the race lead and complained of Verstappen's defense.

The resulting collision on Lap 64 saw both drivers getting their tires punctured after Max Verstappen made a late move under braking. While speaking to Sky Sports, Guenther Steiner reviewed the incident and said:

"Maybe it shows the limit of how far you can go and maybe he was looking at how he can go and that's what you do if you want to win races. That's what all the great did all the time, remember, going to Senna days, Michael Schumacher. They always went to the end of it and I think Lando learned a lot and maybe next time he's gonna do the same."

Meanwhile, Lando Norris stated that after reviewing the collision with Max Verstappen in Austria last weekend, he was 'excited' to go racing in front of his home fans at Silverstone this weekend.

Lando Norris provides an update on his mindset ahead of the British GP

The McLaren driver appeared on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X and pointed out that he won't complain and was ready for the fight with the three-time world champion, saying:

“I’m very excited for the British Grand Prix. At the same time I reviewed everything, we’ve gone over stuff, and let’s say I wouldn't really change what I did. I was fighting, and that’s what we want – we want to fight! We don’t want to complain, we don’t want things to end like they did, both from Max’s side and from my side."
"So, that’s life sometimes. We’re fighting, we both want to win, and we’re going to push it to the limits – some slightly more than others. But yeah, at the same time, I’m excited. We’re going to have more fights together, and I look forward to those times,” he added.

After the Austrian GP, Max Verstappen was able to extend his lead over Lando Norris in the Drivers' Championship to 81 points despite finishing in P5 and a 10-second penalty.

Lando Norris remains in P2 with 156 points, six ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, after 11 races and three Sprints in the 2024 season thus far.
