"He’s fully lost the plot": Fans react to Sergio Perez's claims that Red Bull didn't fight hard for the constructors title

F1 fans have reacted to Sergio Perez shifting part of the blame to Red Bull for failing to win the 2024 F1 constructors' championship. Most fans criticized Checo for pushing the blame to his team.

Many people in the paddock began talking about Checo's future with the Austrian giants with the 2024 F1 season coming to a close. In terms of overall performance and points earned, 2024 has been the Mexican's weakest year in a Red Bull car.

Checo might likely finish the season in eighth place in the drivers' championship, having failed to win a single race this year. Meanwhile, his teammate, Max Verstappen, now a four-time world champion, is leading the drivers' table, having won nine Grand Prix in 2024.

Speaking to the media before the Abu Dhabi GP about his future with Red Bull, Sergio Perez admitted that he takes the blame for not being able to help the team win the title. However, he then added that his poor performance cannot be the sole reason and that he is a small cog in a massive team, hinting that other team members should also share the blame.

“Of course, I take responsibility. But also I don’t feel it’s fully all down to one person. I’m obviously part of a big organisation, a big team. And it’s very unfortunate that we did not fight any harder for the Constructors’,” Perez said. (via RacingNews365)

Many F1 fans were unimpressed by Perez slightly shifting the blame towards other team members. They discussed how it was the Mexican's fault that Red Bull lost the championship.

"He’s fully lost the plot," one fan wrote.
"Bro’s acting like it’s not all his fault," another added.
"Bro what. It’s your fault lmao," someone echoed.

One fan wrote that Checo should be sacked from the team solely for this comment. A couple of followers mentioned how Max Verstappen worked hard to get points and Perez was blaming Red Bull while losing to drivers from Red Bull's B team, Racing Bulls.

"He should lose his seat for this statement alone," one follower opined.
"Max working overtime and dude is losing to the drivers in VCARB and dares blame Red Bull!??" another exclaimed.
"Bro it’s literally your fault. Max was always up there," a fan chimed in.

Along with shifting the blame to Red Bull, Sergio Perez strongly claims that he will be staying at Red Bull in 2025, despite rumors suggesting otherwise.

Red Bull team boss plans to discuss Sergio Perez's future after Abu Dhabi GP

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner addressed Sergio Perez's future with the team and said a decision will be taken after the 2024 F1 Abu Dhabi GP. Speaking in the press conference, Horner first stated the fact that Checo remains a Red Bull driver according to his current contract. He then recalled the Mexican's dip in performance after the Monaco GP and empathized with the driver for having a tough season.

"Now, obviously, Checo is our driver. He remains our driver, contracted to the team. And obviously, this season hasn't gone to anyone's plan, particularly with Checo's performance and since Monaco, it's been very, very tough for him. And so inevitably, once we get this race out of the way, we'll sit down and discuss the future," Horner said.

Sergio Perez currently has a contract with Red Bull till the end of the 2026 F1 season.
