"Kevin Magnussen, what the f**k are you doing?" - F1 pundit admonishes Haas driver for his incident in Monaco
F1 pundit Tom Coronel has slammed Haas F1 driver Kevin Magnussen for his collision with his teammate Nico Hulkenberg and Red Bull's Sergio Perez at the Monaco GP on Sunday. The incident took place extremely early in the race, with all three drivers recording DNFs.
Magnussen made an excellent start to the race, starting from the back of the grid, and was quickly on Perez's gearbox heading into Turn 3. The 31-year-old went for a move on the outside of the turn in a bid to overtake the Mexican, who left no room for him, resulting in a collision.
The crash saw heavy damage to both Magnussen and Perez and even involved Hulkenberg as he lost a wheel after tangling with the two drivers.
Speaking with Motorsport.com, Coronel was left fuming with the move and called out Kevin Magnussen, saying:
"As a driver, you know that you should not sit there. And by that I mean Magnussen. This isn't possible, it's impossible. You can't even overtake there, so why even try on a corner? We've seen that, right?
"You know that it [the order] has actually already been determined in qualifying and that you can only win in the pit lane? So Magnussen, what the f**k are you doing?"
He also questioned the race stewards, who termed the whole crash as a racing incident, not blaming either of the parties involved, adding:
"I don't know who is behind the scenes, but they don't know what car racing is. I dare say that. I think they are a bunch of guys who have no understanding of the situation on the track."
Kevin Magnussen gives his take on the crash with Sergio Perez in Monaco
After the race on Sunday, Kevin Magnussen stated that he was frustrated to be involved in such a big crash. He also questioned Sergio Perez's defensive tactics, claiming that he should have been allowed more room.
As per F1.com, the Haas F1 driver said:
"I was with my front alongside Perez’s rear from the exit of Turn 1, in the run up to Turn 3. He goes towards the wall, the wall comes back a little bit towards the track, and I have nowhere to go. I don’t know if he didn’t see me, but I can’t just disappear out of the blue, so I made contact with the wall and him at the same time, and we crashed.
"It’s frustrating and a crash like this has a big cost for the team in terms of spare parts and making new parts, as well as a lot of work for the team, it’s just never good."
Kevin Magnussen is currently on 10 penalty points on his FIA super license and is just two points away from a race ban.
