Mercedes employee makes his feelings known about Lewis Hamilton: "He is just a genuine, nice guy who will listen to and talk to anyone"
In a reply on a recent X post, a Mercedes engineer posted his feelings about outgoing driver Lewis Hamilton. Jonathan Wilcox, the engineer, briefly wrote about an outing Hamilton took with the team in Abu Dhabi, and how he is an approachable person who communicates with everyone on the team. He also made it a point to mention that Lewis requested no social media at the outing.
Wilcox was responding to an X post about Hamilton's farewell event at the Mercedes-Benz museum in Germany. The original post detailed the British driver's behaviour at the event as something that was "open, honest". The original poster, Rob Halloway, who hosted and moderated the conversation, capped the post with the fact that he is a fan of the driver, and will continue to support him when Lewis joins Ferrari in 2025.
Wilcox, in response to this, posted his reply.
"Very much the person he is Rob [Halloway]. He took 2 dozen of us surfing in Abi Dhabi. He requested no social media from the team, just wanted it to be him and us hanging out. Very simply he is just a genuine, nice guy, who will listen to and talk to anyone, about anything."
Lewis Hamilton has been with Mercedes for 12 years, and won six world championships with the team, while also achieving 84 wins and 78 pole positions with the team. The Briton leaves Mercedes after racing 246 races under the team's banner.
Lewis Hamilton's final radio message for his Mercedes team
After crossing the checkered flag in Abu Dhabi in P4 on the grid, Lewis Hamilton passed on a heartwarming radio message for his team. After the waving of the flag, Hamilton said:
"I love you guys, I really, really do"
Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, gave his response:
"We love you too and you're always going to be part of that family and if we can't win, you should win."
His long-time race engineer Peter 'Bono' Bonnington also shared a word:
"Good man, stellar job today, bud, it's been a pleasure all the way."
The British driver had begun his Abu Dhabi GP at P16, but finished fourth. Hamilton finished the season seventh in the drivers' standings.
