Outgoing Ferrari star Carlos Sainz treats himself to $2,000,000+ Christmas present ahead of 2025 Williams move
Williams-bound driver Carlos Sainz has purchased a lavish Ferrari Daytona SP3 for himself ahead of the 2025 season. Sainz finished his Ferrari career earlier this year, and is set to make his Williams debut in 2025 after being replaced by Lewis Hamilton.
Sainz is all set for a fresh chapter in his career with Williams F1. The 30-year-old driver, who had signed with Ferrari as a replacement for Sebastian Vettel, concluded his journey with the Prancing Horse at the end of the 2024 campaign.
After learning he would not continue at Ferrari, Sainz was highly sought after by several teams. Offers came from Sauber/Audi and Alpine, but it was Williams’ ambitious project under team principal James Vowles that ultimately persuaded the Spaniard.
In the lead-up to the 2025 Formula 1 season, a video has surfaced online showcasing Sainz’s newest possession: a Ferrari Daytona SP3. The car, priced at over $2 million as per Ferrari’s official website, seems to be a sentimental acquisition, marking the end of his Ferrari chapter.
The Daytona SP3 is painted with a matte grey body and red accents. A red stripe runs down the center of the vehicle, with matching details along the front splitter and side panels. Inside, the car is a blend of carbon fiber and Alcantara, complemented by bold red seats and a black dashboard.
Customizations unique to Sainz include red pinstripes on the side skirts featuring his iconic #55. The words “Smooth Operator” are also inscribed on the air intakes and center console, a reference to the song most often associated with the Spaniard on the F1 grid.
Carlos Sainz was "99% sure" of signing an extension with Ferrari
In an episode of the Beyond The Grid podcast, Carlos Sainz reflected on his unexpected departure from Ferrari, acknowledging that it was a tough period for him.
"I think at the beginning of the year, I was tested more than I’ve ever been tested before and life put me in a situation that was not comfortable at all," Carlos Sainz said via Formula 1.
"I was told that I was not going to continue with the team that I was 99% sure I was going to continue with going into that winter. It was a massive shock to my hopes and I obviously didn’t enjoy that moment."
Now at Williams, Carlos Sainz will be teaming up with former Red Bull driver Alex Albon. Sainz will be replacing the outgoing rookie Franco Colapinto. The latter had stepped up to replace Logan Sargeant in the second Williams ride midway through the 2024 season.
