"Put your money where your mouth is": Alpine driver comments on post talking about Lewis Hamilton's wish to form an F1 team with 'diversity'
Alpine Academy driver Sophia Floersch has said that Lewis Hamilton should monetarily back his idea of forming a diverse F1 team. The Mercedes driver has strongly advocated "diversity" in the sport for the past few years.
As per Motorsport.com, Hamilton has shared his wish to form a team with Mercedes Academy driver, Doriane Pin, and karting star Kenzo Craigie. While Pin competes in F1 Academy and drives for Prema Racing, Cragie races karts and is gearing up for F4.
"Kenzo and Doriane, she's a badass. If I was to make a team, maybe one day I will, it'll be diverse from the beginning," Lewis Hamilton said.
Floersch, who has competed in the World Endurance Championship and currently races in F3 as an Alpine Academy driver, replied to the post and said:
"Put your money where your mouth is."
The seven-time F1 world champion has founded initiatives like Mission 44 to promote diversity in the sport. He also encouraged having people of diverse backgrounds working in the sport and female racing drivers given F1 has remained a sport dominated by white men since its beginning.
Lewis Hamilton chimes in on Mercedes partnership as the end nears
Lewis Hamilton has said he isn't feeling overly "emotional" with his final race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on the horizon. Speaking with F1.com at the Qatar GP last weekend, the 39-year-old shared his feelings about the end of his collaboration with Mercedes.
"I don’t particularly feel very emotional right this second, no. I’ve had a whole year so it’s been emotional through the whole year. I would say that I’m less emotional at this moment but yesterday I was with IWC and they showed me a video from 2013 and it was emotional. Sat down with Bono just now and we were like, ‘This is our last two races together, can you believe it?’" Lewis Hamilton said.
“There’s going to be so many of those moments in these next two weeks where we’re like, ‘Shoot, this is nearly it.’ I can’t tell you when that’s going to be or how it’s going to feel. It’s definitely going to feel odd, it’s definitely sad, but we’ll try not to let that deter us from our job."
Hamilton will race for the German team one last time at this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after a horrible weekend at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar. He will be with the team until the end of the month due to several contractual obligations such as sponsorship events that he has to attend before he leaves the Brackley-based outfit for Ferrari next year.
