Sergio Perez parties with $85.3B Mexican businessman hours after P17 finish at his home race in Mexico

Sergio Perez partied with Carlos Slim Domit, a $85,300,000,000-worth Mexican businessman, and other friends after securing P17 in the 2024 F1 Mexican GP. Clips and pictures of the party surfaced on social media after the race ended.

At the qualifying session of the Mexican GP, all the grandstands were shocked to see their home hero, Checo, get knocked out of Q1 and only secure P18 for Sunday's Grand Prix. Along with him, another shocking elimination was that of Oscar Piastri, who got knocked out and started the race from P17.

In the main race, Perez was hit with a five-second time penalty for not parking his car correctly in the grid box before the start. Though Checo managed to climb up the grid in the early stages, he had an intense moment with RB driver Liam Lawson on Lap 18. The Red Bull driver tried to overtake, but Lawson closed the door and defended his P10 position aggressively.

In the skirmish, the right area of Perez's car was damaged and he lost some pace. After he pitted for medium tires, he came out of the pits in the last position, P17, due to three retirements from the race. The Mexican was then unable to overtake anyone at his home race and finished last.

After the Mexican GP, several pictures and clips of Perez partying with his friends surfaced. One of them was Domit, Carlos Slim Helú's son, a Mexican businessman who runs Grupo Carso, America Movil, and other massive companies. Another was Mexican businessman Arturo Elías Ayub. Perez's wife Carola Martinez was also there.

Perez shared what he discussed with Lawson after their on-track battle for P10 after the F1 Mexican GP.

Speaking to F1.com, Sergio Perez said:

“Yeah, I just told him I think we ruined both our races – I was ahead, there was no need to come together at that point. It was Lap 11 of the race, just compromising our race, both of us. I don’t think it was a very clever move.”

After a poor performance in Mexico, Perez currently stands in eighth place with only 150 points. Meanwhile, his teammate Max Verstappen leads the table with 362 points.
