Sergio Perez shifts blame to Red Bull for not fighting harder for the constructors title

Sergio Perez recently shifted part of the blame to Red Bull for failing to fight and win the 2024 F1 constructors' championship. This comment was made amid questions about his future with the team.

As the 2024 F1 season comes to an end, many people in the paddock have started discussing Checo's future with the Austrian giants. 2024 has been the worst year for the Mexican in a Red Bull car in terms of points gained and overall performance.

Checo was not able to win a single race this season, and could most likely finish the season in eighth place in the drivers' championship. Meanwhile, his teammate Max Verstappen, who recently won his fourth-consecutive world championship in Las Vegas, leads the drivers' table, having won a total of nine Grand Prix.

While Verstappen won the driver's title, the same cannot be said for Red Bull. The defending world champions will soon lose their crown to McLaren. Many feel that Red Bull's failure to win the constructors' was down to poor performances from Checo. The driver, however, thinks otherwise.

Speaking to the media before the Abu Dhabi GP, Sergio Perez admitted that though he takes the blame for not being able to help the team win the title, he reckons that his poor performance cannot be the sole reason. He added that he is a small cog in a massive team, hinting that other team members should also share the blame.

“Of course, I take responsibility. But also I don’t feel it’s fully all down to one person. I’m obviously part of a big organisation, a big team. And it’s very unfortunate that we did not fight any harder for the Constructors’,” Perez said. (via RacingNews365)

Perez has a contract with Red Bull till the end of 2026. He feels confident that he will remain with the team till the end of the deal.

Sergio Perez debunks rumors about his future at Red Bull

Sergio Perez strongly claimed that he would be staying in Red Bull in 2025, debunking all the rumors that his time in the Austrian team is nearing its end. Speaking to the media, he said that he does not have anything new to add to what he has previously said.

"Nothing has changed in terms of what I've said for the entire year, I've got a contract for next year and I will be driving for Red Bull next year, there is nothing further to add. For sure, I have seen the rumours, but I will do nothing different to the last couple of months, so in that regard, there is nothing further to what I've already said in the last six months," Checo said. Perez is currently eighth in the drivers' championship table with only 152 points in his pocket.
