“We are so back”: Fans react as F1 flop Logan Sargeant begins IndyCar career on a high
Former F1 driver Logan Sargeant recently took part in a private IndyCar test in hopes of getting into one of the teams' rosters for the 2025 season. This was the American's first IndyCar experience.
Ever since he was young, Sargeant molded his racing career to get into F1. He was able to do so in 2023 when he was hired by Williams. In his debut season, he struggled quite a lot but was able to score one point. Despite his frequent crashes and mishaps, the team's head, James Vowles, supported the American rookie and extended his contract till the end of 2024.
In 2024, however, his performance dipped even further, to a point where Williams took the hard decision to remove Sargeant from the seat mid-season and replace him with Franco Colapinto. After he departed from F1, Sargeant did not confirm anything about his future, but soon rumors flew that he was considering getting into IndyCar.
Fast forward to November, Logan Sargeant was spotted in a private test with the Meyer Shank Racing IndyCar team. He was testing their F1 car around The Thermal Club track. The Racer journalist, Marshall Pruett, posted live timings of the session, in which Sargeant was topping the timing sheet with a 1:41:671. In the test, he was also accompanied by another former F1 driver, Felipe Nasr.
Many F1 fans were excited to see Logan Sargeant back in a racing car after his F1 exit. They praised the American and discussed how he deserved a seat in a racing series even though fortunes were not on his side in F1.
"Logan bros we are so back," one fan wrote.
"Yes Logan is very fast he got put in a tough situation and didn't perform his best. He might be very well suited to Indy car," another added.
"Obviously I don’t know test programs, but it would be great if he did resurface in Indycar. F1 wasn’t for him but f2 showed talent. Sadly unless he lands a sponsor it’s unlikely and there’s many others in the sidelines too," someone chimed in.
One fan also pointed out how close all the drivers were in the IndyCar test session. Logan Sargeant was only ahead of second-placed Felipe Nasr by 0.069.
"All but one within a half second. Crazy" one follower mentioned.
Logan Sargeant's initial thoughts after his IndyCar debut in a test session at Thermal Club
After his first IndyCar test session at The Thermal Club on Tuesday, November 19, Logan Sargeant shared his first thoughts and expressed his feelings.
Speaking to IndyCar's social media team, he explained how every car needs to be driven in a different way, something that he felt while driving an IndyCar around the track. He added that he felt comfortable in the car but was still a long way away from finding the machine's limit.
"So just finished the morning here in Thermal. Relatively what I expected, I feel like there is obviously a lot of differences. I think the main thing is just understanding every car has a different way it needs to be driven. It's a good car to drive," Logan said.
"I feel like comfort-wise in the car, I'm feeling good, but in terms of getting everything out of it, there is still a good way to go. Started to get there towards the end and a few more sets of tires to come,"
As of now, nothing has been confirmed about Logan Sargeant's future in IndyCar. He currently does not have a contract or seat with any team.
