Top 3 F1 drivers who are dominating their teammates in 2024
The 2024 F1 season is in a holding pattern as the paddock enjoys the summer break. We're 14 races into the season, with 10 left. The season started in the Middle East and went to Australia, America, Asia and Europe before we reached August.
Post the summer break as well, the bandwagon will roll to different continents as F1 continues to diversify. There's one thing, though, that doesn't change, and it's the ability of drivers to make an impact for their respective teams.
In the current grid, while every team ideally want both drivers to extract everything possible from the car, they're often limited in that respect. There are a few teams on the grid, though, who have only one driver dragging the maximum from the car.
On that note, let's take a look at the top three drivers dominating their teammates this season.
#3 Max Verstappen (67.9%) (Red Bull)
At this stage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Max Verstappen is the driver who is dragging the most, if not all, results from Red Bull this season.
Sergio Perez has enjoyed a decent stint, but his performances have fluctuated. The sad reality is that they have have fluctuated over a period when the car was quite clearly the fastest on the grid.
Red Bull don't have this privilege this season, which has played a role and made an impact. While Verstappen continues to compete at the front of the grid, the same cannot be said about Perez, who is struggling to even score points.
At the midway point of the season, Verstappen has scored close to 70% of the overall points by the team, explaining why Perez's position is under scrutiny.
#2 Nico Hulkenberg (81.5%) (Haas F1)
One has to tip the hat to the career turnaround Nico Hulkenberg has had in F1. He was checked out of the sport at the end of the 2019 season and had to sit out for multiple years. After impressing Guenther Steiner with his motivation and getting a chance at Haas, Hulkenberg hasn't looked back since then.
Even in 2023, he was just relentless in qualifying but didn't have the car to truly extract the best in races. In 2024, he has had that and has dominated Kevin Magnussen, not only in qualifying but in races as well.
The German has scored more than 80% of the overall points scored by Haas this season and continues to be the face of the American team.
#1 Alex Albon (100%) (Williams)
The situation at Williams is more or less the same it was in 2023. Alex Albon continues to be the benchmark in the team, leaving Logan Sargeant a bit compromised. The American F1 driver was forced to sit out in a race because Albon had cracked his chassis.
Moreover, there have been races where Sargeant has been pushed into using older parts. Nevertheless, the reason why he finds himself in this predicament is because he has not shown that he can extract the performance his team want.
Albon continues to be the flagbearer for Williams in F1 and has scored all the points for the team this season.
