With the 2014 World Cup in Brazil getting ever closer, the pots were revealed today from which the eight groups will be formed.
Pot 1 includes all the seeded teams, Pot 2 contains the five African teams and South American teams, Pot 3 consists of North American and Asian teams and finally the pot 4 contains the rest of the unseeded teams from UEFA.
Pot 1 (8): Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium
Pot 2 (7): Algeria, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Chile, Ecuador
Pot 3 (8): United States, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Iran
Pot 4 (9): Italy, Netherlands, England, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Russia, Portugal, France
One of the Pot 4 teams will be drawn into Pot 2.
It was expected that France being the lowest ranked team in Pot 4 will be taken into Pot 2. But now a draw will take place before the main draw to decide which team from Pot 4 will be put into Pot 2.
Also the draw will be made in such a way that,
1. There will not be more than one South American team in a group
2. There will not be more than 2 UEFA teams in a group.
To make sure of that, the unseeded UEFA team from Pot 2 will be drawn with one of either Brazil,Argentina,Colombia or Uruguay. This ensures that none of the seeded UEFA teams in Pot 1 will draw the unseeded UEFA team from Pot 2.
The draw will take place in Brazil on Friday at 10.30 pm IST.
