I-League 2nd division round-up: Mohammedan Sporting Club maintain their winning streak
Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting scripted a thumping victory over Chennayin Football Club reserves, as they eased past the South Indian club by a 4 goal margin to maintain their winning streak in the ongoing 2nd division I-League.
Prahlad Roy opened the scoring for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the 26th minute, while veteran Tirthankar Sarkar doubled the lead 8 minutes later. Roy completed his brace just after the hour mark, and sealed the deal for the home side.
Ankit Mukherjee put the last nail on the coffin for the Chennai-based club, when he scored the last goal in the 74th minute to make it 4-0.
In the other match, FC Kerala edged past Fateh Hyderabad by a 2-1 margin in their fixture at the Corporation Stadium on Saturday. Jonas’ strike in the 23rd minute put the hosts ahead, only for Lalrinfela to equalise in the 41st minute to make it 1-1.
Just four minutes later, Jasman Gurung faltered and scored an own goal to give the hosts the unlikely advantage. It was 2-1 till the half-time mark and FC Kerala managed to hold on to the 1 goal lead till the final whistle was blown, and scripted their victory over Fateh Hyderabad.
Fateh Hyderabad will play its next match against Kerala Blasters Football Club reserves, while FC Kerala will lock horns with Madhya Bharat FC on 21st March.
Langsning FC will lock horns with Bengaluru Football Club in their fixture on March 19 in a 4 P.M. kick-off. The following day will be a big day, as 10 teams will be in action across 5 venues in separate games. Hindustan FC will play against Delhi United, while Lone Star Kashmir United will face off against Delhi Dynamos FC reserves.
March 20 will witness three 4 P.M. kickoffs, the first between Kerala Blasters Football Club and Fateh Hyderabad; Ozone FC Bengaluru will play against FC Goa while Jamshedpur FC will be going head to head against Tiddim Road Athletic United.
