3 reasons why Arsenal and Max Meyer are a perfect match
Schalke are a team known for exporting world-class talent to teams around Europe, with the likes of Manuel Neuer, Leroy Sane, Leon Goretzka, and more recently Max Meyer rising through the ranks at the German club. Many of these youngsters have found a lot of success throughout their career, with Neuer becoming a Bayern and Germany legend, and Sane a nominee for the Premier League's Player of the Season award. Goretzka recently signed a deal to move to the aforementioned Bavarian club, so the obvious next step for super talent Max Meyer is to upstage to a bigger club. Arsenal is just the team he needs, and here's why:
1) Requirement
As mentioned earlier, Meyer needs a transfer to a bigger club to really prove himself and enhance his game. Originally an attacking midfielder, Meyer has taken up a more defensive role as a deep-lying playmaker while pulling the threads for Schalke under new coach Domenico Tedesco. Ever since moving to that position, the 22-year old has really flourished and caught the eye of many clubs from all over Europe, including the North London giants, Arsenal
The Gunners seemed to be bereft of ideas for a major part of the season. They have genuinely missed the presence of a creative playmaker such as Santi Cazorla, who has been out injured, to complement Mesut Ozil. Wenger has tried to deploy the likes of Xhaka, Ramsey, Wilshere, and even Elneny in Cazorla's spot, but neither of them has really fit in.
Meyer, however, has played a very similar role in the first half of the Bundesliga season and has shown his versatility by sitting in a deeper role more recently. His effectiveness isn't a problem either, as he has carried Schalke to their current second place position ahead of local rivals Borussia Dortmund.
