3 reasons why Liverpool won 2-1 against Leicester
Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the season, after edging out Leicester 2-1 at the King Power Stadium. It took a few minutes for the visitors to create the first real chance of the game, with Salah missing from the rebound after Schmeichel saved Firmino's effort in the 3rd minute.
The Reds were rewarded for their positivity after Sadio Mane slotted past Kasper Schmeichel in the 10th minute. After Mane's opener, Leicester upped the ante as they kept their shape, and created a few chances of their own with Demarai Gray forcing a smart save from Alisson.
Liverpool doubled their lead in the 45th minute after Firmino headed home from Milner's cross.
Leicester, the better side in the second half, were rewarded for their efforts three minutes after the hour mark after Alisson's error was pounced on by Ghezzal. Nevertheless, the Merseysiders withstood a barrage of Leicester attacks and held out for their fourth win of their season.
In this article, we take a look at the three reasons why Liverpool secured the win away from home.
#1 Gomez continues to impress at the back with another stand out performance
Joe Gomez has been one of the stand out performers for Liverpool in their first four games. The Englishman formed a formidable partnership with Van Dijk, and his impressive performances have seen him earn a call up to the national side.
Gomez put in yet another commanding performance at centre-back, coming up against some skillful footballers such as Gray, Maddison and Ghezzal. He stationed himself at the right places throughout the game, and made some important interceptions which prevented Leicester from scoring.
His standout moment came in the second half after he put in an inch perfect tackle, thereby preventing James Maddison from reducing the arrears in the 52nd minute. Gomez finished the game with an impressive pass accuracy rate of 82%, winning all three of his duels.
Gomez's impressive displays are surely making it tough for the likes of Matip and Lovren from finding a route back to the starting eleven.
