35th Federation Cup: Sporting Clube de Goa take on Dempo in semifinal tomorrow
In an All-Goan derby, Panjim rivals, Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo Sports Club will battle it out in the second semifinal at the 35th Federation Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Cochin on Thursday evening. The kick off is at 7.30pm and the match will be shown live on Ten Action.
Sporting Goa reached the semifinals after recovering from an opening day 3-5 loss to Bengaluru FC, to go on and defeat East Bengal Club 2-1 and overcame Rangdajied United FC 2-0 in the subsequent matches to top Group B with six points.
Former champions Dempo SC topped Group D with seven points after overcoming Bhowanipore FC 2-1, followed by a3 3-0 win over United Sikkim FC. In their last group game they were held to a goalless draw by Mohammedan Sporting Club, but due to a better goal difference Dempo moved into the semifinals.
In their pursuit for goals in this campaign, Sporting Goa have had three main sharpshooters in Victorino Fernandes (3 goals), Boima Jerry Karpeh (2 goals) and Beevan D’Mello (2goals).
When the two clubs met in this season’s I-League, it was the Flaming Oranje who won by a solitary goal scored by Boima Jerry Karpeh., but tomorrow nights Fed Cup semifinal is a different game, in a different surrounding and still a lot is expected from it.
