The Champions League is one of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world and the most prestigious in Europe.

One thing that has remained the same over the years is this tournaments ability to produce shocks and surprises. Even a team that has no hopes of winning can spring a surprise or two on their day.

Manchester United is one of those clubs who are known as "comeback kings" for their late comebacks. Time and again, United has proved that they have the latent ability to churn out results when the back is against the wall.

Here are the 4 greatest comebacks the Red Devils have made in European football!

#4 1984 European Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final (second leg): Manchester United 3-0 Barcelona (3-2 on Aggregate)

Manchester United's knack of making comebacks started long before Sir Alex Ferguson arrived at the club.

Barcelona with a certain Argentine named Diego Maradona in their ranks had won the first leg of this European Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final by two goals at the Camp Nou. Few gave United any chance to overturn the deficit in the second leg.

But the Red Devils proved all their critics wrong, winning the home tie by a comprehensive score of 3-0 and advanced to the semi-finals. Bryan Robson scored a brace and Frank Stapleton added a third to complete United's remarkable turnaround.

They really surprised everyone with their tenacity in the tie against one of the best teams at that point of time.

Manchester United would then go on to lose 3-2 on aggregate to Juventus in the semi-finals of the 1984 European Cup Winners' Cup.

A certain Scotsman also guided Aberdeen to the semi-finals of the same competition, where they faced against Porto in the other last-four clash.
