5 players of Indian origin who had a great 2017/18 season
Indian National Team has been making great strides in football in the recent years. The Blue Tigers currently sit just inside the Top 100 in the FIFA rankings and have qualified for AFC Asian Cup 2019 for just the fourth time in their history.
Although the national side is well balanced right now, integrating experienced and young players, there is always the debate of recruiting players of an Indian origin to the team. However, with strict citizenship laws in India, the chances of roping in these players are highly unlikely.
Even though seeing some of these players pull on a blue jersey seems like a distant dream, we can follow their progress and see how they have been performing in international settings.
Here is a list of 5 players of an Indian origin, who have had a terrific 2017/18 season.
#5 Yan Dhanda
Not the most notable name on the list but Dhanda does play for the most notable club out of all the players on the list. Liverpool secured Dhanda on a professional contract in 2015, just two years after joining the reds from West Bromwich Albion.
Much is expected of the youngster who is currently showcasing his skill on the Under-23 level. Dhanda has been a key player for the young side, featuring in seventeen games. He has so far scored 3 goals and added 1 assist to his tally as the reds occupy the third place in the U23 table, five points behind leaders Arsenal.
Dhanda's consistent performances for the U23s have shown that the youngster is the real deal. Plus, with a coach like Jurgen Klopp, who believes in promoting youth, it won't be long before the Birmingham born player comes knocking on the first-team door.
