5 possible destinations for Gary Cahill as he winds up his Chelsea career

Chelsea v Hull City - Premier League
Chelsea captain Gary Cahill could be on his way out of the club

England vice-captain and Chelsea captain, Gary Cahill has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League since the start of his career with Aston Villa in 2004. The English central defender moved to Bolton Wanders to enhance his playing opportunities in 2008 after two loan spells at to Burnley and Sheffield while being under contract at Aston Villa.

After four seasons with Bolton, Cahill got his big break as Chelsea signed the defender. A two-time Premier League winner, a Champions League winner and Europa league winner, Cahill has managed to win every trophy there is to win in football.

A solid, robust central defender, the 31-year-old Englishman has made over 50 appearances for the national side and has only a year and a half remaining on his contract.

With the addition of a number of new central defenders at Chelsea along with the infusion of youth that they provide, England's best central defender in the previous few years might be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. Here we take a look at five possible destinations for Gary Cahill.

#5 West Ham United

Watford v West Ham United - Premier League
Moyes in charge at West Ham United

The Hammers are currently under David Moyes who replaced Slaven Bilib after a terrible run of results brought an end to his reign as West Ham manager. Languishing in the bottom three, the club needs points and results after their most recent slip with Moyes in charge, falling 4-0 to fellow strugglers Everton, to secure their status in the PL.

The Chelsea defender might make a move away from Stamford Bridge soon and a possible destination for the Englishman could be London rivals West Ham United. With two years left in his Chelsea contract that ends in June 2019, Cahill and the club will be looking for other options.

The Hammers could suit the player perfectly and if the club under Moyes manages to avoid the drop, Cahill added to the ranks could bolster the squad for the coming seasons. While Chelsea will receive a small fee for the English defender instead of selling the player for free before his contract runs out it seems like a suitable option for the ageing defender and the club.
