5 players who have scored the most penalties in the Premier League
Since the inaugural PL competition began in 1992-93, numerous penalty kicks have been awarded and a large number of goals have been scored from the spot kick.
Taking a penalty kick is far from easy and the pressure is immense, especially with thousands of supporters screaming at the top of their lungs.
Only 15 players have bagged 18 or more spot-kicks in PL history and Yaya Toure is the only player in the league to score 11 out of 11 spot kicks during his time at City.
Here we take a look at 5 of the best penalty takers in the league, who have scored the most number of goals in the league's history from the spot.
Special mention: On the 18th of December, 2017, Wayne Rooney scored Everton's 3rd goal against Swansea City from the spot, taking his overall tally to 22 penalties, bringing him level with 2 players on this list.
#5 David Unsworth - 22 penalties
Recently replaced Everton interim manager, David Unsworth was a former Premier League player who played for Everton, West Ham United and a bunch of other clubs across England. During his 15-year long career in the English top flight, Unsworth netted a total of 38 goals, out of which 22 goals were from the penalty spot.
Second, on the list of highest scoring defenders in the league and tied fifth on the all-time Premier League goals from the spot, Unsworth had a good career as a player.
The Englishman made just the single appearance for his country in 1995, but was a versatile player who could play both as a central defender or left-back. He began his career in 1992 with Everton and spent the majority of his career with the Toffees.
A retired defender, now coach, had and still has great ambition and passion for the game as he continues his work as a coach despite his removal as interim manager.
