5 Premier League teams Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score against ft. Manchester United’s fierce rivals
5-time Ballon d'Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most prolific goalscorers in football history. He has scored 895 senior goals so far in a career spanning over 22 years.
The mercurial Portuguese, who is the scourge of many goalkeepers, however, has failed to score against some teams. Let's take a look at the five Premier League teams he has failed to score against:
1. Leicester City
During his glittering career with Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo faced Leicester City thrice but failed to beat the goalkeeper in all those games.
The first time he faced them was in his debut season, 2003-04, when the Red Devils emerged victorious at Old Trafford courtesy a Gary Neville goal, but Cristiano drew a blank.
With Leicester relegated that season, Ronaldo had to wait for nearly two decades to face them again, this time in his second stint with Man Utd in 2021. However, he drew a blank in both attempts.
2. Wolverhampton Wanderers
Like Leicester, the 5-time Ballon d'Or winner faced Wolverhampton Wanderers thrice as well but never registered a goal nor an assist against them.
In his first stint at Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo faced Wolves twice in the 2003-04 season but failed to score home and away. In his last meeting with them, Ronaldo was on the losing side as the Midlanders won 1-0 at Old Trafford.
3. Sheffield United
Sheffield United are the only opponent on the list which the former Manchester United attacker faced in just a single season. Ronaldo lined up against the Blades in the 2006/07 season, a couple of years after moving to the Premier League.
He failed to trouble the Sheffield United goalkeeper both home and away despite the Red Devils doing the double over the then-recently promoted team. The Blades were relegated at the end of the season and were not part of the Premier League during Ronaldo's second stint, which meant they joined this illustrious list of clubs Cristiano has not scored against.
4. Crystal Palace
We go back to teams where Cristiano Ronaldo played against both as a youngster in his first spell at Manchester United as well as an experienced player in his return to the club.
The Portuguese star came off the bench at Selhurst Park in October 2005, but failed to break the deadlock as the two sides shared the spoils in a goalless draw. The 20-time English champions beat Palace 1-0 in interim manager Ralf Rangnick's first game in charge but the Eagles managed to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at bay.
5. Leeds United
Manchester United's fierce rivals Leeds United would proudly highlight that they've kept the now 39-year-old at bay every time they've faced him.
Both the occasions that Cristiano played against the Whites were at Elland Road. In the 2003-04 season, Leeds kept Ronaldo quiet but lost to a Roy Keane goal in the 81st minute.
Ronaldo failed to get on the scoresheet in a goal-fest over 18 years later at the same venue as Manchester United won 4-2 away from home.
