5 records Lionel Messi can break in the next four years
What was merely a foregone conclusion has finally materialized. Barcelona ace, Lionel Messi, has finally signed a contract extension that ties him to the club till 2021, which also includes a release clause of a whopping €700 million.
Whilst the latter half of the story isn't a concern, the fans are in an absolute delirium to watch their greatest star pen a new deal following a long impediment and frustrating spells of speculations from the media.
But having put all the cacophony to rest, Messi now looks forward to at least four more years of massive success with his boyhood club, whilst also breaking a whole host of records in the process.
Here are the top five feats that the Argentine genius achieve over the course of next four years at Barcelona.
#1 Highest number of European Golden Shoe
Just a few hours ago, Messi was rewarded his record-equaling fourth European golden boot for his heroic goalscoring exploits in the 2016/17 season, which saw the 30-year old finish with 37 strikes in the league. With that, not only did he draw level with his eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo on this count, but is also on course to surpass him with another fruitful season in front of goal.
The twinkle-toed Argentine currently stands at 12 goals in as many appearances, and will look forward to a whole lot more by the time the season comes to a conclusion. With Ronaldo hitting a glass ceiling in his career this season, the Real Madrid player has only accrued 2 goals in the tournament so far, having lost his goalscoring sheen. The Portuguese will sooner or later get the goals he's hungry for, but the tally of 40-45 goals he registered in the seasons gone by looks quite improbable now.
Messi is just 30 and has a few more years at the top. It's very unlikely for him not to win a fifth Golden Boot (or even more), by the time he hangs up his boots.
