Carlos Marchena didn't have a great outing with Kerala Blasters

Indian Super League (ISL) has successfully finished the fourth season. Over the years, ISL had brought many famous players into their roster. The motives behind the inclusion of those players were to attract the audience and to help the Indian youngsters.

ISL clubs spent huge amounts of money to bring them. However, not every ISL marquee signings were able to impress the football fraternity.

While some Marquee players took the team in their shoulders and helped them script records, many others failed to even contribute to their gameplay.

The incompetence of these marquee signings affected the clubs. The absence of a leader was visible in their performance and they stumbled down in the tables, failing to script their name in the record books.

In this article, we will take a look at five ISL marquee signings who failed to deliver what was expected.

#5 Carlos Marchena

Kerala Blasters announced Carlos Marchena as their marquee player for the Second season. The versatile defender from Spain had previously played for the likes of Valencia, Sevilla, Villareal etc.

Productive when plied as a Central defender or a Defensive midfielder, it was hoped he'd act as their defensive mainstay. He missed the first part of the season due to injury but returned back to the squad only to feature in a game, where he was ineffective.

A pre-season injury troubled his game. He was well past his prime, and there was no debate. What expected from him was how he could inspire the crew and intervene himself in their gameplay.

The trend to go for famed names than the well fit players defined KBFC's tragedy.

Kerala Blasters released him and the unstable crew tumbled down that season as they finished at the bottom of the table.
