6 highest scoring clubs in Europe's top leagues

Manchester City were the goal kings last season
Manchester City were the goal kings last season

We have approached the crunch stage of the 2018/19 European footballing season, with most clubs already having an idea of where they stand in terms of achieving their season objectives.

While some clubs are on course to fulfil them, others have fallen some way off course and can only hope to make the best out of the rest of the season.

A major contributing factor to clubs achieving their season targets have been the scoring of goals or lack of, as, without goals, matches cannot be won nor points gained (unless in the instance of goalless stalemates).

While some clubs such as Manchester City and Barcelona have mastered the art of goalscoring, making it look flawlessly easy, others like Manchester United (until recently) and Atletico Madrid find it more difficult to put the ball in the back of the net.

While major emphasis is usually placed on Golden Boot races rewarding the highest scoring individual players, very little attention is given to the highest scoring club sides. In this piece, we shall be taking a look at the six highest-scoring clubs in Europe's top five leagues.

#6 Tottenham - 54 goals (26 matches played)

Even in Kane's absence, Tottenham are still flourishing
Even in Kane's absence, Tottenham are still flourishing

One of the success stories of the last decade, Tottenham have built themselves from UEFA Champions League hopefuls into not just UCL regulars, but also genuine title contenders in recent years.

What is more impressive is the fact that all these have been achieved without resorting to mega splashes in the transfer market like their rivals, instead focusing on bringing through young players and moulding them into world beaters.

Their charge has been led by the remarkable goalscoring prowess of Harry Kane and the World Cup Golden Boot winner is still their top marksman with 14 EPL goals this season.

However, the 25-year-old has been sidelined for some weeks due to injury, but in his stead, Spurs have thrived, with Heung-Son Min being their go-to man in their number 10's absence.

The Lily Whites have scored an impressive 54 goals from 26 matches to sit third on the EPL and push City and Liverpool all the way, which is a testament to Mauricio Pochettino's tactical abilities, as Spurs made history by being the first club not to bring in new transfers for two consecutive transfer windows.
