AC Milan buys Italian striker Alessandro Matri

Confirmed: Alessandro Matri joins AC Milan

AC Milan have bought Italian striker Alessandro Matri from arch-rivals Juventus for a fee of around €11m, as per reports in Football Italia.

The deal, which was in the news for some time, got finalised after the Rossoneri qualified for the Champions League group phase on Wednesday night.

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani last night stated that Massimiliano Allegri had asked for a new centre-forward.

Following Milan’s passage through to the group stages of Champions League a local channel broke the news of new signing with title: ‘Matri. Welcome back Alessandro.’

Matri, in fact, is a product of AC Milan youth academy, but was sold to Cagliari in July 2007 for €2.3m.

The deal is believed to be €11m, which is €1m less than what Juventus were bargaining for. The 29-year-old forward will undergo a medical later today.

AC Milan badly needed a forward as Giampaolo Pazzini is not likely to return anytime soon from injury after his knee surgery in May earlier this year.

With Matri’s arrival, it is rumoured that Milan will loan 18-year-old striker Andrea Petagna to Sampdoria.
