Afghanistan captain Amiri joins Dempo SC from Mumbai FC
Afghanistan International captain Zohib Islam Amiri has done a transfer within the I-League as he left Mumbai FC to join former champions Dempo SC until the end of the 2013/14 season.
Amiri’s performances over the last two years for club and country have been remarkable, making him one of the best central defenders in South Asia. He led Afghanistan to a 2-0 victory over India in the 2013 SAFF Championship and was earlier voted the FPAI’s Fans’ Player of the Year for the 2012/13 season in India.
After completing the signing of Amiri, Dempo SC head coach Arthur Papas said, “We are delighted to have completed the signing of Amiri, who we believe will play an important role in the club’s run in the Federation Cup and I-League.”
Amiri after signing for Dempo SC said, “I am delighted to finally have signed for Dempo SC. I look forward to repaying the faith showed in me by Mr Papas. My main focus will be to play well for the team, and have a successful season with Dempo SC.”
FIFA Licensed Agent and Libero Sports Partner Arvind Narayan, who represented Zohib Islam Amiri in the transfer, said, “Amiri is a young and powerful defender with a lot of quality. He’s a quality addition to the Dempo SC team, who will best utilize his strength and versatility to have a very good finish to the season.”
Amiri, who besides being a central defender can also play as a wing-back and defensive midfielder, has been given the squad number 18 at Dempo SC.
