Ajax relocate training just before collapse of inflatable dome

The collapsed inflatable dome at Ajax’s training facility

Bad weather has hit Europe as one of the most powerful storms ever in the history of the continent has brought life to a standstill in many countries with trains, ferries and flights being cancelled across the northern part of the continent with Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium and other countries along the northern coast most severely affected.

Football too has had no escape as Ajax found out. The club were forced into cancelling their training session ahead of their Dutch Cup tie against ASWH. The team were preparing under their inflatable dome when they noticed the winds picking up speed and getting stronger with each passing moment.

Manager Frank de Boer, as a precautionary measure, decided to pull his players out and relocate the training session to another venue. And it was good thinking on de Boer’s part, as minutes after the players and staff had left the facility, the dome collapsed under the influence of extremely strong winds.

There was nobody in and around the facility at the time and that resulted in zero casualties.
