Alan Pardew to join Crystal Palace
There are reports coming out regarding Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew may quit the job at his current club and join Crystal Palace. Alan Pardew has emerged as a contender for the managerial vacancy at Crystal Palace, with the Premier League strugglers reportedly ready to make a formal approach to Newcastle.
Palace are without a manager having disposed with Neil Warnock the day after Boxing Day.
Rumours that the 53-year-old could leave St James' Park increased last night as Alan Pardew did not attend his post-match Press conference after the 3-2 win over Everton and two national newspapers have touted him for the job in the aftermath of the victory over the Toffees.
Newcastle assistant John Carver, who did the post-match conference, said: "Alan didn't say why I was doing the press, he just told me to do it."
Palace sacked Neil Warnock on Saturday after four months in charge with the side in the relegation zone. Palace co-chairman Steve Parish is considering Pardew — along with Hull chief Steve Bruce and other British managers — as a replacement for Neil Warnock.
Newcatsle have also accepted the biggest stumbling block, that is the £5million compensation fee in Pardew’s contract.
If Pardew was to move to south London he would be swapping ninth-placed Newcastle for a team lying third bottom in the Premier League. Whilst Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has stood by Pardew through some difficult times, including earlier this season when many fans were demanding the manager's removal saying “Sack Pardew” banners but the businessman would be unlikely to stand in Pardew's way if the buy-out clause was met.
Pardew has always made clear his desire to manage Newcastle, who he once took to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League during his four year spell in charge.
However, despite five-years remaining on his contract, it’s thought that he could be tempted away considering the demands of his role on Tyneside. That he played for Crystal Palace between 1987 and 1991 would ensure he has an immediate affinity with the club.
We will have to wait and see what happens as he has avoided commenting on reports that he could become the new Crystal Palace manager. It is no doubt that if Pardew moves to Palace, the team will have some development in the table .
