Alternate take on what Arsenal should do if they miss out on Suarez - Part 1

Arsenal after many seasons are at a point where they could seriously challenge for that 14th title. It’s been almost a decade since they last won it. The memories of the Invincibles are still fresh. Since then the club have undergone a torrid time , considering their previous years.

Finally Arsene Wenger is at a point where he can add to his collection of titles. Granted winning the PL is still a longshot for the team, especially considering the squad Manchester City and even Chelsea possess. But this time there really is a feeling among the fans and the club that something truly awesome is going to be achieved this term.

Arsene last week said that even without anymore signings, leave alone marquee signings, they could seriously contest. This statement has been challenged and been labelled as stupid by many fans, fanatics and observers alike. But that being said, the same team were unbeaten since losing to Munich at the Emirates.

They even defeated and kept a clean sheet against Bayern, albeit a vastly depleted side. But with a few signings Arsenal could definitely challenge up until late April at the least. Many have said of the need for marquee signings to seriously compete this is an alternate take on what Arsenal should do in the Market to ensure they could seriously contest.

 Sort out the Suarez issue

It’s been said everywhere and by everyone that Arsenal absolutely need Suarez to contest. Despite being a huge fan of Suarez and a believer in Wenger’s ability to control misbehaving players. I really don’t think he’s what Arsenal need presently. Granted without a player like Suarez Arsenal won’t stand a chance in the Champions league.

But that being said the fans aren’t as crazy about winning the UCL as compared to the need for a domestic cup. Maybe next season they might be, but definitely not this year. So it’s okay to miss out on Suarez as long as it happens fast. Whatever the decision, it has to happen as soon as possible.

However, if they do miss out on Suarez, they should look to strengthen the team even more.

Striker / Centre Forward

Considering Suarez doesn’t join Arsenal need to look for back up options that come at a decent price and guarantees goals. 3 names come to mind immediately. Mario Gomez, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Stefan Kiessling. Gomez has already joined Fiorentina and wouldn’t have fitted in anyway at Arsenal. But the other two would be great signings. Definitely 20 goals a season forward, with great finishing technique and comfortable shooting with both feet (Huntelaar especially) and heading.

Both are expected to cost around £12 million . They also show decent speed and good movement around and inside the box. More importantly they are hungry as they need to show their national coaches that they belong in their first team after being overlooked consistently for strikers with similar returns but bigger names (Robin Van Persie and Mario Gomez respectively). One of these guys along with Oliver Giroud and Yaya Sanogo should get Arsenal plenty of goals.

My opinion : Klaas- Jan Huntelaar> Stefan Kiessling.
